Las Vegas, Nevada Mission Trip Description

Temple Baptist Church Students (9^th/10^th Grade)

June 3-9, 2017

 

Working with Temple’s Church Plant partner, WALK Church, Temple students will gain meaningful insight into church planting and the difference it makes in the lives of people. Some of the activities students will participate include:

 

• Worship Service -- As a new church plant, teams have to setup and tear down the Worship Service Venue each week. This is currently taking place in a Middle School. On Sunday, WALK will utilize the Temple team to help set everything up for service including lights, sound, staging, signage, chairs, etc. WALK will also utilize part of the TBC team to help serve in the "4Twelve" Children's ministry during service, teaching and playing with children, and helping with check-in. 
• Prayer Walking -- WALK believes that God responds to the faithful prayers of His people and that one of the most important ministries of His church is that of prayer. Thus, WALK will be utilizing the TBC team to prayer walk communities surrounding the Middle School where the church is currently meeting, asking God to open up doors to engage people with the gospel, see lives saved, see people connect to WALK church, and growing in a vibrant walk with Jesus through discipleship. The TBC team will also spend time praying over the city in general and WALK asks that your team remain in a constant state of prayer during the trip, ...at the airport, while driving around town, while on the strip, etc. 
• Low-Income & Homeless Ministries -- While here, WALK leaders will give students an opportunity to serve the "least of these" by partnering with a local ministry known as "Goodness Gracious Ministries". This is a food truck ministry that serves the needs of low-income, impoverished families and the homeless population. Students will help with food and clothing distribution, play games with children, hand out walk church wrist bands, and spend time loving and encouraging families and children. 
• Mutual Encouragement -- Some of the greatest feedback WALK received from teams who have visited in the past and from Walk Church members who have spent time with our teams, is the mutual encouragement that takes place. During your trip, you will have the chance to hear the stories of the Walk Church family members, many of whom have moved to Las Vegas to live life on mission in our city each day and see the kingdom expanded. Others have lived here their whole lives and have amazing testimonies of life change as a result of hearing the gospel and responding to Christ. WALK will also ask TBC students to share their stories about coming to faith and how God is at work in their life. WALK has setup dinner's in homes to create an intimate setting that will allow time to share about all that God is doing in and through Walk Church, as well as Temple Baptist, and take time to pray for one another. 
• City Exploration -- During your time here, WALK also hopes to show you around Las Vegas and give you the chance to see the need that exists first hand, as well as experience some of the sites and sounds first hand.
• Hiking – To give the TBC team a sample of the beauty of Las Vegas outside the city, WALK will take the TBC team hiking at Red Rock Canyon. Red Rock Canyon is beautiful and allows you to see and experience the natural landscape. The trail we will hike offers a view of the entire city at the end (we will surprise the team with this) at which point we will again pray over the city. Be sure students have clothes and shoes that are appropriate for hiking. The trail includes a little bit of climbing, but nothing too extreme. If this doesn't seem suitable for everyone, we can choose a different trail or break up into two groups. 

These are just a few of the activities, which you will see on the itinerary, but we hope this gives you a general overview of what you can expect during your time in Las Vegas.

 

Prayer request the TBC team can be praying for their upcoming trip:

• Pray that God would raise up more disciples in our city who are equipped and excited to engage the city with the Gospel. 
• Pray that God would continue to strengthen, unify, and grow Walk Church, giving us influence and opportunities to see people set free to walk in Jesus. 
• Pray that God would continue to provide us with a venue for our Worship Service on Sundays, and eventually open up the door to a more permanent location. 
• Pray for the multiplication of our Charge Groups, which are our small groups that meet in homes during the week for the purpose of discipleship. 
• Pray that God would allow us to secure a 15 passenger van to pick-up students who would like to join us on Sundays, as well as a truck capable of pulling our large trailer that we use to transport our gear for Sunday mornings. 
• Pray for the city of Las Vegas as a whole of the 92% of unchurched residents who call Las Vegas home and that God would continue to use His church to reach those who do not have a relationship with him and connect more people to a local church. 
• Pray that God would continue to energize us for the mission he has called us to here in the Las Vegas and that he would send more laborers into the harvest which is so plentiful here.
